- Trinity's men's basketball team opened up Southern Collegiate
Athletic Conference play on the road on Friday night, winning 73-59 at
Colorado College.
Trinity (5-1, 1-0) led 37-22 at the half after
hitting 16-28 (57.1%) from the field to open the game. The Trinity
defense also came out strong, allowing just 32% shooting in the first
period.
Despite the discrepancy in the shooting
percentages, the score remained close for much of the first half.
With under five minutes left, Trinity went on a 17-4 run to finish off
the half with its biggest lead of the night.
Colorado College cut the lead in half early in the
second, but Trinity hit three unanswered buckets to push the lead back
to 14 with just over five minutes elapsed in the period. Colorado
College would not go quietly, though, cutting the lead to single digits
(57-50) with under five minutes to play.
After the home team made it 63-57 with 2:19
remaining, Trinity hit 8-8 from the foul line and converted its only
field goal attempt down the stretch to hold on for the victory.
Luke Caldarera, starting his first game this
season, finished with a career-high 29 points for Trinity, hitting 10-13
from the field and 8-8 from the free throw line. He also picked up
a game-high 10 rebounds in the win.
Charles Houston finished with 11 points and four
steals, while Michael Tobolowsky had career-highs in both scoring and
rebounding. Tobolowsky finished with eight points and seven
boards, while B.J. Moon scored six points and dished out a career-high
eight assists in the game.
Lance Jacobs and Brady Ohlsen led Colorado College
with 15 points each, while Nick Rose contributed 11 points in the game.
Trinity will travel to Sherman, Texas on Sunday,
taking on Austin College to finish off its opening weekend of SCAC play.
The Tigers will travel to Southwestern University on December 18-19 for
the Southwestern/Trinity Holiday Classic in Georgetown, Texas.
