San Antonio
- Trinity's men's basketball team earned a 75-64 win over Colorado
College on Friday evening, opening up the final weekend of play in the
regular season, and securing the 200th win at Trinity for Head Coach Pat
Cunningham.
Trinity (21-3, 12-2) led 43-22 at the half,
shooting just under 60% from the field and holding Colorado College to
just 22.9% shooting.
Cunningham, who recently won his 350th career
game, is Trinity's most successful men's basketball coach in terms of
both wins and winning percentage.
Less than eight minutes into the game, Trinity had
opened up a 22-6 advantage and never trailed by less than 12 the rest of
the half. That lead blossomed to 31 points after less than five
minutes of action in the second half, and Trinity remained in control of
the game throughout.
Charles Houston had a superb game for Trinity,
narrowly missing a triple-double, and breaking a tie for Trinity's
career steals record. Houston recorded a pair of steals in
tonight's game, and is now both the single season and career
record-holder in steals.
Houston led the team with 15 points, 10 rebounds,
and a career-high eight steals on Friday night, playing in just 27
minutes of the game. He hit 5-10 from the field - including 2-4
three-point shots - and 3-5 from the foul line.
Dwight Lutz, starting his first game of the
season, hit 3-8 three-pointers on his way to 14 points, while B.J. Moon
scored 13 on 5-8 shooting. Nick Polidoroff came off the bench with
one of his better games this season, hitting 6-6 from the field for 12
points and five rebounds in just 19 minutes of action.
Brady Ohlsen led all scorers with 22 points for
Colorado College, as well as leading the visiting team with six rebounds
in the game. Jarrell Sweet added 14 points, while Nick Rose scored
10 for Colorado College.
Trinity concludes its regular season with a game
against Austin College tomorrow night. The Tigers will be the top
seed at next weekend's SCAC Tournament, hosted by Hendrix College. |
