Georgetown, Texas
- The Trinity men's basketball team won its seventh straight game on
Friday evening at the Southwestern/Trinity Holiday Classic, defeating
Marian University 62-49.
Trinity (8-1) led 33-25 at the half, jump-started
by a 10-0 run to open the game. Marian was able to fight back to
within one (20-19) with just over six minutes to play in the first
period, but the Tigers rattled in nine unanswered to push it back to a
double-digit lead with four minutes on the clock.
The Tigers last won seven consecutive games during
the 2004-05 season. Marian didn't fall easily in the second half,
though, opening with an 11-1 run to take its first lead of the game.
Marian held on to the lead for the next few minutes, even pushing it to
46-41 halfway through the period.
It was at that point that Trinity finally came
alive in the second half, scoring seven straight points to regain the
lead, then finishing off the final 4:25 with a 10-0 run that secured the
win.
Charles Houston turned in a solid performance to
lead the Tigers, scoring 14 points and pulling down 11 rebounds.
He also led the team with four steals and hit 7-12 from the field.
B.J. Moon led all scorers with 19 points on 7-11
shooting, also grabbing five rebounds and dishing out a team-high three
assists. Moon hit 2-3 from distance and 3-4 from the foul line.
Luke Caldarera chipped in with nine points and
five boards, while Patrick Robinson finished with eight points.
Jonathan Lewis and Nick Polidoroff had six points each for the Tigers,
and Polidoroff also had seven rebounds.
Justin Bestor and Logan Rankin led Marian with 12
points each, while Joel Clark came off the bench with seven points and a
team-best seven rebounds.
Trinity will be off for nearly two weeks for the
holidays, returning to action on New Year's Eve against SUNY Institute
of Technology. The game will tip-off at 4:00 p.m. |
