- Trinity's men's basketball team, ranked 10th in Division III,
opened up a home weekend of play in the Southern Collegiate Athletic
Conference with a 55-40 win over Sewanee: University of the South on
Friday night.
Trinity (15-1, 7-0) won its 14th consecutive game
in the process, dating back to the second game of the season. The
Trinity Tigers led 29-17 at the half after neither team shot above 40%
to start the game.
Sewanee held a slim lead a couple of times early
in the game, but a 10-0 run by Trinity at the midway point of the first
period put the home team on top for good. Sewanee got to within
four points later in the period, but the team never got closer than 10
in the second half of play.
B.J. Moon led Trinity with 16 points - hitting 6-7
from the field and 4-5 from the three-point line - but Dwight Lutz stole
the show with a career-high 15 points in just 23 minutes off the bench.
Lutz hit 6-10 from the field and 3-6 from distance, also collecting two
rebounds and two assists.
Charles Houston and Luke Caldarera chipped in with
six points each, and Houston also led the team with eight rebounds and
three steals. Nick Polidoroff grabbed seven rebounds to go with
four points in just 15 minutes.
Ben Pursell had 11 points to lead Sewanee, while
Bradley Pierson scored 10 points and grabbed a team-best eight rebounds.
Casey Berry dished out six assists and nabbed four steals to lead the
visitors in both categories.
Trinity will continue the weekend with a Sunday
afternoon game against Oglethorpe University, beginning at 12:00 p.m.
