Trinity University Tigers
junior defender Kyle Altman of Albuquerque, N.M. (Albuquerque
Academy), has received an additional honor from the National Soccer
Coaches Association of America (NSCAA).
Altman has been elected to
the NSCAA/adidas College Men’s Scholar All-America First Team. The
6-foot-1, 170-pound Altman, a biochemistry major, is the only junior
on the senior-dominated first team. The team consists of players
from NCAA Divisions I, II and III.
Earlier this month, Altman
was selected for the NSCAA All-America First Team and the
D3Kicks.com All-America
Third Team. Altman also was chosen as the Southern Collegiate
Athletic Conference Men’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Year.
Altman was a key part of the
Tiger defense which yielded only 17 goals (.80 average) while
scoring 83 (3.86 per game). He scored eight goals (four
game-winners) and dished out three assists.
Trinity’s men, led by head
coach Paul McGinlay, won their 10th SCAC Championship and
competed in the NCAA Division III postseason tournament for the 10th
time. The Tigers (19-1-1) beat Hardin-Simmons in the opening round
of the NCAA tournament and lost to California-Santa Cruz in the
second. Both games were played on the Tigers’ field. Trinity held a
No. 1 national ranking for much of the season and McGinlay was
elected SCAC Men’s Coach of the Year.
The Tigers captured the NCAA
Division III national crown in 2003.
