Trinity's men's soccer team finished off a SCAC road weekend with a 6-0
shutout win over Austin College on Sunday afternoon.
Trinity (13-0, 5-0) led 2-0 at
the half, then broke the game open with three goals in a span of just
under 11 minutes in the second period.
The Tigers had a eye-opening
10 different players score points in this game, including four players
who came off the bench to contribute at least a point.
Goalkeepers David Steinberg
and Patrick Johnson combined for the shutout in today's game, playing 45
minutes each. Johnson recorded three saves in the first half, and
both players faced three total shots.
Ben Stewart started the
scoring off with a goal in the 10th minute, assisted by Robert C'deBaca.
In the 40th minute, German Gomez added an insurance goal heading into
the break, and then defender Joe Houchins got the team started on a
scoring spurt that sealed the victory for the Tigers.
Houchins nailed an unassisted
goal in the 57th minute, and less than eight minutes later, Noe Casanova
benefitted from a Tyrone Petrakis assist to make it 4-0 with about 25
minutes to play.
Leading goal-scorer Patrick
Floeck then added the team's fifth goal less than three minutes after
Casanova's, and Ben Grossman capped the day's scoring with a goal in the
85th minute. Andrew Chong assisted on the Floeck goal, while David
Anderson was credited with the assist on Grossman's score.
Trinity returns home next
weekend to take on DePauw and Centre in two important SCAC games.
All three teams are tied atop the SCAC standings and will head into the
weekend with perfect 5-0-0 records in conference play.
