Trinity Wraps Weekend With Win Over Panthers

Birmingham, Alabama - Trinity's men's soccer team remained unbeaten on the seaosn with a 2-1 win over SCAC newcomer Birmingham-Southern College on Sunday afternoon.

Trinity (8-0, 1-0 SCAC) and Birmingham played to a 1-1 tie through the first period, but the Tigers were able to reclaim the lead - and the win - with a goal in the 73rd minute of play.

Though Birmingham-Southern is a member of the SCAC, the school is in transition from Division I to Division III, and therefore, the games do not count in the SCAC standings.

Tyrone Petrakis got the Tigers off to a strong start with a goal in the 11th minute, his third score of the season.

Birmingham was able to equalize by converting a penalty kick in the 29th minute, as Gino Cozzolino beat Trinity GK David Steinberg.

Neither team managed any more scores until Ben Grossman converted his only shot attempt into a game-winning goal.  German Gomez, who scored a hat trick against Millsaps on Friday, assisted on the goal.

Trinity will travel to Texas Lutheran University one week from today to take on the Bulldogs at 3:00 p.m.  The Tigers return home for a weekend of SCAC action on October 5 and October 7 against Hendrix and Rhodes.
