Top-Ranked Trinity Downs UT-Dallas to Open Playoffs

San Antonio - Trinity's top-ranked men's soccer team opened postseason play with a 3-0 shutout win over the University of Texas-Dallas on Wednesday evening.

Trinity (19-0) led 2-0 at the half, then added an insurance goal less than 15 minutes into the second period.

The Tigers out-shot the Comets 30-6 in the game, with 12 of those shots being on goal.

Patrick Floeck (pictured at right) scored two goals for Trinity, including the eventual game-winner in the 6th minute of action.

Ben Stewart sailed a cross right to left past the goal, where Noe Casanova put a head on it right to the feet of Floeck, and then Floeck - Trinity's leading scorer - buried the ball in the back of the net for the opening goal.

Stewart then got a goal of his own in the 15th minute, assisted by Robert C'deBaca.  C'deBaca shot the ball initially from inside the box, and after it rebounded right back to him, slipped a pass to the right side, and Stewart made it 2-0 early.

Floeck's second goal was also assisted by C'deBaca, who is tied for second on the team with nine assists this year.

David Steinberg played into the 85th minute in net for Trinity, combining with Patrick Johnson for the shutout - the 11th of the season for the Tiger team.

Trinity will face Principia (IL) College Saturday evening at 6:00 p.m.  Tickets will be $6.00 for adults/gen. admission, $3.00 for students, and $2.00 for children 12 and under.
