Tigers Open SCAC Play With Shutout at Austin College

 

Denison, Texas - The Trinity Tigers opened defense of their SCAC title with a 3-0 shutout Friday over the Austin College Kangaroos.

The game was moved from Sherman to Munson Stadium because of weather and field conditions.

Trinity, ranked No. 12 in the NCAA Division III, improved to 5-1-0 and 1-0-0 SCAC. The Tigers, who have won five straight games, continue their SCAC road swing Sunday in Colorado Springs, Colo., with Colorado College at 1 p.m. Mountain Time (2 p.m. Central).

Senior forward Ben Grossman scored two goals and added an assist in Friday’s game. Grossman, who registered his fourth game-winning goal of the season, scored the opening goal with 29 minutes expired on the clock, with an assist from sophomore midfielder Chesley Farmer. Grossman fired in his second goal in the 34th minute, with the assist from first-year forward Alan Castillejos.

Sophomore midfielder Aaron Olson scored with 24 seconds remaining in the game, as Grossman and sophomore midfielder Nima Naderi were credited with the assists.

Senior goalkeeper Patrick Johnson accounted for two saves in the game.

Trinity outshot Austin College 19-4 and led 8-2 in shots on goal. The Tigers had nine corner kicks and the Roos did not pick up any.
