The eighth-ranked Trinity Tigers men
edged the Millsaps Majors 3-2 in a double-overtime SCAC game Sunday
afternoon.
Trinity, the
defending conference champion, improved to 8-1-2 and 3-0-0 SCAC.
Millsaps now stands at 7-6-0 and 2-4-0 SCAC. Last Friday, the Tigers
tied Birmingham-Southern 1-1 in a double-overtime SCAC game in Alabama.
Tiger senior defender Alan Llobet
scored his first game-winning goal of the season, 2:35 into the second
overtime period. First-year forward Alan Castillejos had the assist, off
a throw-in to the box.
The Tigers were
down 1-2 with less than two minutes to play in the game, including a
Millsaps score on a Trinity own-goal. Then, Trinity senior forward Ben
Grossman sparked the Tigers with a goal in the 88th minute. Grossman
scored by kicking the ball into the goal off the Millsaps’ goalkeeper’s
save. Senior midfielder Connor Hickey provided the assist. Grossman, who
has eight goals this season, became the 11th player in
Trinity history to score 30 or more times in a career.
Trinity sophomore
midfielder Ian Davies put the Tigers on the board first, in the 39th
minute, with an assist by junior midfielder Tommy Barros.
The Tigers led the
Majors 21-4 in shots, and held an 11-3 advantage in shots on goal.
Trinity led 14-3 in corner kicks.
There will be two
SCAC home games next weekend. Trinity will host Centre at 8 p.m. Friday,
and DePauw at 2 p.m. next Sunday. |
