- Trinity senior forward Ben Grossman scored two goals as the
fifth-ranked Tiger men edged the Rhodes College Lynx 2-1 Friday night in
a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference game.
The Tigers (14-1-2, 9-0-0 SCAC)
scored both goals in the second half of the game, heading into halftime
locked in a scoreless tie.
Grossman scored his goals in the
53rd and 67th minutes, and sophomore forward Jayanta Majumdar provided
the assists. For the season, Grossman has scored a team-leading 13
goals, along with six game-winners. Majumdar picked up his first two
assists of the campaign.
Rhodes scored its only goal in
the 73rd minute, pressuring Trinity to the very end, but falling short
in the end.
Trinity led 34-5 in shots, and
19-3 in shots on goal. The Tigers picked up 17 corner kicks, and Rhodes
was not awarded any.
The Tigers close out their
regular season Sunday by hosting Hendrix at noon in an SCAC game.
Trinity has already clinched the team's eighth consecutive - and 13th
overall - SCAC Championship, and will receive the conference's automatic
bid to the NCAA Playoffs. |
