San Antonio -
The Tiger men's soccer team handed Hendrix College a 7-0 defeat to open
up a weekend of Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play on Friday
evening.
Trinity (10-0-0, 2-0-0) led
3-0 at halftime, adding four more goals in the final period. The
Tigers, ranked No. 1 in the nation, recorded their fifth shutout of the
season.
Patrick Floeck scored a pair
of goals for Trinity on Friday, including the eventual game-winning goal
in the 24th minute of action. Floeck scored the opening goal in
each period of tonight's game. Ben Stewart assisted on the first
goal, while Robert C'deBaca assisted on the second.
Matt Beham scored in the 28th
minute to make it 2-0 Trinity on a corner from German Gomez.
All-American Tyrone Petrakis then capped the first period scoring with a
goal in the 35th minute, assisted by Cameron Hogsett.
After Floeck's second goal,
Gomez made it 5-0 in favor of the Tigers, and Ben Grossman's 71st minute
score pushed the lead to six. Joseph DeCosta and Andrew Chong
earned assists on the two goals.
Andres Aceves finished off the
day's scoring by converting a penalty kick in the 83rd minute of play.
Four Tiger keepers combined
for the shutout, with David Steinberg going the first 45 minutes of
action. Patrick Johnson, Casey Kay, and Joe Benefield also saw
action in net for the Tigers.
Trinity will host Rhodes
College at noon on Sunday, which is a game time change from the original
schedule.
