San Antonio -
Trinity's top-ranked men's soccer team finished off a weekend of action
in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference with a 5-1 win over the
University of the South-Sewanee on Sunday afternoon.
Trinity (12-0-0, 6-0-0) led
3-0 at halftime, and the team nearly posted its third consecutive
shutout of the year. Trinity held a 28-7 advantage in shots taken,
as well as a 12-2 edge in corner kicks.
Tyrone Petrakis scored the
first two goals of the game - with the second being the eventual
game-winner - to put Trinity on top. He connected in the 27th
minute when Sewanee's defense was unable to clear the ball out of the
box, then he took a pass from Noe Casanova for another goal in the 39th
minute.
Michael Robertson headed a
Conner Hickey corner kick back to the middle of the net to set up Ryan
Wood for a goal just 67 seconds later.
After Cameron Hogsett scored
in the 72nd minute, assisted by Jordan Wade, Sewanee was finally able to
get on the board against Trinity. The TU Tigers, however,
responded with a fifth goal - this time scored by Kyle Porter and
assisted by Lachlan Fogarty.
Patrick Johnson had four saves
in the match, giving up just one goal. It was the first goal
allowed by Johnson in just over 333 minutes in net, dating back to the
Austin College game on October 3.
Trinity will host a pair of
non-conference games next weekend, taking on St. Lawrence University and
Wheaton (IL) College on successive days. The Tigers face St.
Lawrence on Friday at 5:00 p.m., followed by a 6:00 p.m. game on
Saturday against Wheaton (IL).
