Seguin, Texas -
Trinity's men's soccer team edged Texas Lutheran University 2-1 in its
only action this week, keeping its season record perfect for Division
III's top-ranked team.
Trinity (9-0-0) led 1-0 at
halftime, then added a second goal early in the second period to take
control of the game. Texas Lutheran netted a goal in the 73rd
minute to cut the lead in half, but the Tiger defense did not allow
another shot on goal after that.
Kyle Altman scored the opening
goal of the game on a penalty kick in the 37h minute, then Tyrone
Petrakis scored just 3:45 into the second period to give Trinity a
cushion. Ben Grossman assisted on the goal, which turned out to be
the game-winner.
The Tigers out-shot the
Bulldogs 21-7 in the game, and held a 6-2 edge in corner kicks.
Goalkeeper David Steinberg recorded two saves - one in each half - to
earn the win in net for Trinity.
The Tigers will host Hendrix
and Rhodes next weekend for the SCAC home openers. Trinity opened
SCAC play with a pair of road wins last weekend.
