San Antonio -
Trinity's men's soccer team opened up its 2007 campaign with a 2-1 win
over Whitworth University on Saturday afternoon.
The game was rescheduled from
last night after thunderstorms in the San Antonio area forced the teams
to postpone their match.
Trinity (1-0) led 1-0 at the
half and then took a 2-0 lead midway through the second. Whitworth
produced a late charge with an 87th minute goal, then had a final shot
at the two-minute mark - though it was not on goal.
Patrick Floeck and German
Gomez scored for the Tigers, with Gomez also getting an assist in the
game. Floeck's goal came in the 27th minute off of passes from Noe
Casanova and Gomez. Tyrone Petrakis assisted on the Gomez goal -
which came in the 63rd minute, and was the eventual game-winner.
Trinity out-shot Whitworth
16-7 overall - including a 9-3 advantage in shots on goal.
Goalkeeper David Steinberg
recorded two saves for Trinity, narrowly missing a season-opening
shutout.
Trinity will face Pacific
Lutheran at 12:00 p.m. tomorrow, while Whitworth will take on
Southwestern at 10:00 a.m.
