San Antonio
- Trinity University Tigers senior defender Alan Llobet of Missouri
City, Texas (Elkins), has been named the Southern Collegiate Athletic
Conference Men’s Soccer Co-Defensive Player of the Week.
Llobet and the sixth-ranked
Tigers recorded a pair of SCAC shutout road victories last week. Trinity
clinched its eighth consecutive SCAC Championship (13th
overall), along with an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III playoffs.
The tough Tiger defense posted
its 10th and 11th shutouts of the season, in
defeating Oglethorpe 3-0 and Sewanee: The University of the South 8-0,
respectively. The Tigers yielded just five shots in the two games.
Llobet scored a goal in Friday’s
win over Oglethorpe, turning a 1-0 second-half lead into a 2-0 advantage
for the Tigers. For the season, Llobet is tied for third on the team
with four goals scored this season, two of which have been game-winners.
Trinity, ranked No. 1 in the NCAA West Region,
stands at 13-1-2 overall and 8-0-0 in SCAC play. The Tigers close out
their regular season with two SCAC home games next weekend, Trinity’s
Alumni Weekend. Trinity hosts Rhodes at 6p.m. Friday, and Hendrix at
noon Sunday.
Official NCAA bids will be
announced Monday, and the playoffs begin Nov. 12. The NCAA Final Four
will be held at San Antonio’s Blossom Soccer Stadium Dec. 4-5. Trinity
and San Antonio Sports are the hosts of the men’s and women’s event. |
