After receiving a first-round bye in the NCAA Regional Playoffs,
Trinity's men's tennis team defeated tournament host University of Mary
Washington 5-2 to advance to tomorrow's regional final.
Trinity (17-4) took two out of three doubles matches
to start things off on Saturday, then took three of the first four
singles matches to clinch the victory.
James Furr, David Tran, and Varun Munjal all
secured singles wins for the Tigers. The doubles teams of Ryan
DeSantis/Oliver Gaines and Tran/Crisanto Ramirez also earned victories.
Tran improves his singles record to 17-2 this
season, while Munjal stands 16-4 overall. Furr is now 14-5 in
singles play.
DeSantis and Gaines are now tied for second on the
team with 14 doubles wins, trailing only Tran and Ramirez - who improved
to 15-5 in doubles this year.
Trinity will take on Johns Hopkins University
tomorrow afternoon. The Blue Jays defeated Washington & Lee
University 5-1 to advance to the finals. The winner of tomorrow's
match will advance to the NCAA Championships at Washington (MO)
University on May 16-21. |
