Trinity's 13-Year Streak Snapped by DePauw Sunday

Waco, Texas – Trinity's string of 13 consecutive Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference men's tennis championships was snapped on Sunday afternoon in a narrow 5-4 loss to DePauw University.

Trinity (16-4) trailed 1-2 heading into singles play, as DePauw won 8-3 and 8-6 at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles, respectively.

D.J. Petros and James Furr won for the 14th time as a doubles team, winning 8-5 to put Trinity on the board early.

Trinity won three of the first five singles matches to be completed, tying the match at 4-4 with only No. 4 singles to be decided.  The winner would secure the 2007 SCAC crown.

David Tran forced a third - and deciding - set with a 6-4 win in the second.  Bryan Heck of DePauw won 7-5 in the opening set.  Tran broke strings on all of his rackets in the match and had to finish with a borrowed racket from one of his Trinity Tiger teammates.  Heck took the 6-1 win in that third set, taking the SCAC Championship match for DePauw.

Trinity's last loss in the men's tennis SCAC Championships was in 1993, marking the only previous time in school history that the team had been beaten in SCAC Tournament play.
