Trinity Sweeps Competition at Home Saturday

San Antonio – Trinity's men's tennis team swept St. Mary's University and University of Mary Hardin-Baylor in a pair of dual matches on Saturday afternoon at Delavan Tennis Stadium.

Trinity (3-1) won its third straight match this season, defeating St. Mary's 9-0 in the opener, followed by an 8-1 win over UMHB.

The only loss of the day came at No. 1 doubles in the match with the Crusaders, as Oliver Gaines and Ryan DeSantis of Trinity were edged 9-8 by UMHB's Eric White and Daniel Quinones.  White and Quinones are currently the second-ranked doubles team in Division III.

Gaines improved to 3-1 individually this season with a pair of straight set wins at No. 1 singles, and doubles partners D.J. Petros and James Furr also won a pair of matches at No. 2 doubles to remain unbeaten this season (3-0).

Trinity singles players are 19-5 so far this season, while the doubles teams are 9-3 overall.  David Tran is the team's top performer so far with a 4-0 singles record and a 3-1 doubles mark.

The Tigers travel to Gustavus Adolphus next weekend to face top Division III competition at the ITA National Indoor Championships.  Trinity opens up against UC-Santa Cruz at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, February 23.
