| San Antonio –
Trinity's men's tennis team swept St. Mary's University and University
of Mary Hardin-Baylor in a pair of dual matches on Saturday afternoon at
Delavan Tennis Stadium. Trinity (3-1) won
its third straight match this season, defeating St. Mary's 9-0 in the
opener, followed by an 8-1 win over UMHB.
The only loss of the day came at No. 1 doubles in
the match with the Crusaders, as Oliver Gaines and Ryan DeSantis of
Trinity were edged 9-8 by UMHB's Eric White and Daniel Quinones.
White and Quinones are currently the second-ranked doubles team in
Division III.
Gaines improved to 3-1 individually this season
with a pair of straight set wins at No. 1 singles, and doubles partners
D.J. Petros and James Furr also won a pair of matches at No. 2 doubles
to remain unbeaten this season (3-0).
Trinity singles players are 19-5 so far this
season, while the doubles teams are 9-3 overall. David Tran is the
team's top performer so far with a 4-0 singles record and a 3-1 doubles
mark.
The Tigers travel to Gustavus Adolphus next
weekend to face top Division III competition at the ITA National Indoor
Championships. Trinity opens up against UC-Santa Cruz at 11:30
a.m. on Friday, February 23. |
