The Tiger men's tennis team, ranked ninth in Division III, lost an 8-1
decision to Division II's No. 15 Abilene Christian University on
Saturday. Trinity (1-1) defeated Midwestern
State University, ranked 32nd in Division II, to open the season
yesterday afternoon.
First-year doubles partners Bobby Cocanaugher and
Cory Kowal earned Trinity's only victory of the match, winning 8-6 at
the No. 3 spot. Kowal also played No. 6 singles, but ACU's Hutton
Jones won 7-6, 6-4.
Oliver Gaines lost 6-2, 6-4 at No. 1 singles,
while James Furr was beaten 6-4, 7-6 in the second position. ACU's
Luke Hawk defeated David Tran 7-5, 6-2 at No. 3, while Brian Joiner and
Brett Proctor beat Varun Munjal and Crisanto Ramirez in straight sets at
No. 4 and No. 5, respectively.
Abilene Christian improves to 5-3 on the season
with the win. Next up for Trinity will be the team's home opener
on February 15th against St. Edward's University. |
