Trinity's men's tennis team opened the ITA Indoor National Championships
with a loss to hosting Gustavus Adolphus on Friday.
Trinity (1-3), which is ranked ninth in Division III,
scored victories at No. 3 doubles and No. 4 singles against Gustavus,
but the fifth-ranked hosts prevailed in the remaining matches.
All-Americans Bobby Cocanaugher and Cory Kowal won
8-5 in their doubles match, while Varun Munjal won 4-6, 7-5, 1-0 to win
the fourth singles position.
Oliver Gaines was beaten in a three-set match at
No. 1 singles, but the rest of the singles matches lasted just two sets.
Trinity will play Johns Hopkins in the Consolation
Round tomorrow afternoon. The Tigers can still finish as high as
fifth in the tournament. |
