Trinity Men Defeat Williams Thursday

San Antonio - Trinity's men's tennis team won a 6-3 decision over ninth-ranked Williams College at Delavan Tennis Stadium on Thursday afternoon.

Trinity (11-3) is ranked eighth in Division III, and will face two more top-10 teams this week.  The Tigers have now won 10 consecutive matches, dating back to the opening round of the ITA National Indoor Championships on February 22.

James Furr clinched the match with a 6-3, 6-3 win at No. 2 singles, just after the team broke a 3-3 tie with a 6-4, 6-3 win by Bobby Cocanaugher at No. 5 singles.

The Tigers swept the three doubles matches to open the contest, then Williams won three straight singles matches to tie the score before Cocanaugher broke the deadlock.

Oliver Gaines also won in singles, taking a 2-6, 6-2, 6-3 win at the top singles spot.  Gaines teamed with Ryan DeSantis for a win at No. 1 doubles, while Furr teamed with David Tran to win at No. 2 doubles.  Cocanaugher and Cory Kowal also won at the third doubles position.

The Tigers will take on seventh-ranked Claremont College tomorrow at 3:00 p.m., followed by a 10:00 a.m match against No. 3 Washington (MO) University on Saturday morning.
