Tyler Junior College Beats Trinity


San Antonio The Tyler Junior College Apaches, ranked No. 2 in JUCO national rankings, took two of three doubles matches and all six singles in an 8-1 win Friday at Delavan Tennis Stadium.

Trinity, ranked No. 12 in the NCAA Division III, won No. 1 doubles. Sophomores Bobby Cocanougher and Cory Kowal, ranked No. 3 in the West Region, beat Pier Pieracciani and Dominic McLuskey 8-6. First-year player Max Frey and sophomore Andrew Hoing were tied at 7-all in No. 3 doubles, but Mwalimu Phiri and Paulo Roessle won the match 9-7.

Cocanougher played a tight No. 2 singles match and lost 6-7, 6-2, 6-3 to Pieracciani.

The Tigers (5-7) will host the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor in a Division III match at 2 p.m. Saturday.
