Craig
McConnell Appointed Trinity’s Assistant Golf Coach

ANTONIO – Trinity University Director of Athletics Bob
King has announced the appointment of Craig McConnell as the Tigers
assistant golf coach.
Coach
McConnell, a former Trinity standout, will assist head coach Carla Spenkoch,
who has completed 11 years at the Tigers helm.
A
team captain and four-year letter winner, coach McConnell earned All-Southern
Collegiate Athletic Conference Second Team honors in 2005 and 2007. He was a
key member of Trinity’s 2005 SCAC Championship team.
Coach
McConnell was named to the National Golf Coaches Association All-American
Scholar Team in 2006. He also received SCAC Academic Honor Roll distinction in
2004, 2005 and 2007.
He
graduated with honors from Trinity in 2007, with a B.A. in business
administration. Coach McConnell was a member of Trinity’s Dean’s List, the
National Society of Collegiate Scholars and was a President’s Scholarship
recipient.
Coach
McConnell continued his education at Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas, where he earned a graduate degree in kinesiology. He was a volunteer assistant golf
coach at Lamar University, where he participated in recruiting and team
administration. Coach McConnell also worked as an assistant at the Beaumont
Country Club.
In
addition, coach McConnell is a Titleist Performance Institute Certified Golf
Fitness Instructor.
A
native of Beaumont, Texas, coach McConnell is a graduate of Monsignor Kelly Catholic High School where he earned All State honors.
Coach
Spenkoch, a respected teaching professional at San Antonio’s Quarry Golf Club,
guided the Tiger men to the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament in 2003. It marked Trinity’s first NCAA invitation since 1975, and
the Tigers finished in 18th place.
