– The McMurry University men’s
team and the Texas Lutheran University women won the Trinity Alamo
City Classic golf tournament Tuesday at SilverHorn Golf Club.
Play was halted for about 45 minutes
because of lightning and rain but the final round was completed.
McMurry captured the men’s title by
winning a tie-breaker with LeTourneau. Mary Hardin-Baylor placed
third, Hardin-Simmons was fourth, Texas Lutheran junior varsity came
in at No. 5 and host Trinity was sixth. Larry Courtney of McMurry
shot an 8-over-par 80 on Tuesday and won the two-day event with a
6-over 150. Tied for second place at 8-over 152 were McMurry’s Rode
McElreath and Patrick Palmer of LeTourneau.
Texas Lutheran’s women finished ahead
of Hardin-Simmons by two strokes. Mary Hardin-Baylor was third and
host Trinity fourth. McMurry came in fifth and LeTourneau sixth.
Angela Aufderhaar of Texas Lutheran took individual honors by
winning a playoff hole against Kristi Martin of Hardin-Simmons. Both
shot 16-over 160s for the tournament. Trinity’s Paige Cohick was
eighth with a 32-over 176.
