Trinity to Host NCAA Regional Playoffs

San Antonio – Trinity's men's tennis team will host Pacific Lutheran University in the NCAA playoffs on Saturday afternoon at Delavan Tennis Stadium.

Trinity, which currently holds a record of 15-7 this season, will be playing for a shot at the NCAA Quarterfinals.  The Tigers have advanced to the NCAA playoffs 13 consecutive seasons, as well as securing its 13th straight Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference title last weekend.

The Tigers will face Pacific Lutheran University for the third time this season, with Trinity winning each of the first two meetings.  Trinity won 6-1 over the Lutes at the Division III National Indoor Championships, followed by a 5-2 win over PLU at UC-Santa Cruz on March 26.

The winners advance to their respective NCAA Division III national tournaments. Twenty-seven men’s teams are in the hunt for a national title, culminating May 17-19 at the University of Mary Washington at Fredericksburg, Va. The individual events will be played May 20-22.

Trinity’s men (15-7) are ranked No. 11 nationally and Pacific Lutheran (19-8) is 15th. The Tigers captured the NCAA national championship in 2000 and were semifinalists in 1999. Trinity’s men also have advanced to the NCAA tournament since 1993.

The Tigers shut out Pacific Lutheran 4-0 in last year’s regional at San Antonio and were edged 4-3 by Gustavus Adolphus (Minn.) in the quarterfinals at Santa Cruz. Sophomore Stu Row of Austin (Westlake) earned All-America honors this year. Individual men’s selections will be announced following the regional team tournaments.
