October 10, 2007 Gaines Wins, but Doubles Team Falls at ITA Nationals

| Mobile, Alabama –
Trinity men's senior Oliver Gaines
won in the preliminary round of singles at the ITA National Small
College Championships on Wednesday, but the doubles team of Bobby
Cocanougher and Cory Kowal lost in their opening match. Gaines defeated Whitman's Matt Soloman 6-4, 6-4 in singles, advancing to the main draw of the competition tomorrow. Cocanougher and Kowal also played against Whitman, falling to Soloman and Etienne Moshevich 7-5, 6-3. The Tiger duo will play in the consolations of the national event. All three players will be All-Americans after winning at the ITA Regional Championships in Abilene, Texas at the end of last month. |
