California - Trinity's Jim Shaughnessy was eliminated in the NCAA
Singles Semifinals on Sunday afternoon at UC-Santa Cruz.
Shaughnessy's run through the tournament was the
furthest any Tiger men's player had advanced since the 2000 season.
He was beaten 6-2, 6-1 by No. 2 seed Matt Seeberger of UC-Santa Cruz.
To open the tournament, Shaughnessy defeated
third seed Dane Schmidgall of Carthage College 6-2, 7-5. Later
that day, he beat Paul McClure from Washington & Lee 6-2, 6-3 in the
second round.
In today's action, Shaughnessy came from behind
to beat Brian Waldron of Middlebury 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 in the quarterfinals.
Jordan Taillon was selected for the singles
tournament, but lost to fourth-seeded Will Boe-Wiegaard of Bates 6-3,
1-6, 6-2 in the first round. Boe-Wiegaard is currently leading
6-3, 5-5 in the other singles semifinal match.
The Tiger team was edged 4-3 by Gustavus
Adolphus College in the NCAA Quarterfinals. |
