California - The Trinity men's tennis team was edged 3-4 by Gustavus
Adolphus College at the NCAA Quarterfinals on Wednesday.
Trinity (18-8) fought a tough match against the
Gusties, but came up just short. Gustavus clinched the match with
a three-set tiebreak victory by Andy Bryan at No. 4 singles.
Gustavus clinched the doubles point with wins at
No. 1 and No. 3 doubles. Stefan Parker and Oliver Gaines were
leading 6-3 at No. 2 doubles when the point was clinched.
The Tigers won in the top three singles matches,
but could not pull off the upset at any of the other three. Jim
Shaughnessy won 7-5, 6-3 at No. 1 singles, while Jordan Taillon won 6-4,
3-6, 6-3 at No. 2 singles. John Matthews won 6-4, 6-3 at No. 3
singles as well.
Trinity advanced to the NCAA Quarterfinals for
the fourth straight season, as well as the sixth time in the last seven
years. The last two seasons, Trinity has been eliminated by the
eventual national champion. |
