The
host
University of Mary Washington Eagles edged the Trinity University
Tigers men 5-4 Sunday in the NCAA Division III tennis third round at
the regional final.
Mary Washington, the region’s second
seed and ranked No. 13 nationally, advanced to the eight-team NCAA
Championship tournament May 13-15 at Bates College in Lewiston,
Maine. Trinity, seeded No. 1 and ranked No. 4 in the nation,
completed its season with a 20-7 record.
The Tigers led 2-1 after doubles and
won Nos. 5 and 6 singles to increase the lead to 4-1. Mary
Washington then took the top four singles matches, clinching the
dual match at the No. 3 slot.
Singles and doubles entries will be
announced this week for the NCAA tournaments May 16-18 at Lewiston.
