San Antonio -
Trinity's men's tennis team won a 6-3 decision over ninth-ranked
Williams College at Delavan Tennis Stadium on Thursday afternoon.
Trinity (11-3) is ranked
eighth in Division III, and will face two more top-10 teams this
week. The Tigers have now won 10 consecutive matches, dating
back to the opening round of the ITA National Indoor Championships
on February 22.
James Furr clinched the
match with a 6-3, 6-3 win at No. 2 singles, just after the team
broke a 3-3 tie with a 6-4, 6-3 win by Bobby Cocanaugher at No. 5
singles.
The Tigers swept the three
doubles matches to open the contest, then Williams won three
straight singles matches to tie the score before Cocanaugher broke
the deadlock.
Oliver Gaines also won in
singles, taking a 2-6, 6-2, 6-3 win at the top singles spot.
Gaines teamed with Ryan DeSantis for a win at No. 1 doubles, while
Furr teamed with David Tran to win at No. 2 doubles.
Cocanaugher and Cory Kowal also won at the third doubles position.
The Tigers will take on
seventh-ranked Claremont College tomorrow at 3:00 p.m., followed by
a 10:00 a.m match against No. 3 Washington (MO) University on
Saturday morning.
