Trinity's men's tennis team finished off its opening weekend of play
with an 8-1 loss to Division II's 19th-ranked Abilene Christian
University on Saturday morning. Trinity
(1-1) opened the season with a 6-1 win over Division I Prairie View A&M
University yesterday afternoon.
Don Murray and Ben Carroll combined to win the
only individual match at No. 2 doubles, taking an 8-6 victory over Juan
Nunez and Hutton Jones.
Bobby Cocanougher and Cory Kowal lost a narrow 8-6
match at No. 1 doubles, then Cocanougher fell 6-4, 4-6, 4-6 at No. 2
singles.
Andrew Hoing, who teamed with Crisanto Ramirez in
an 8-3 loss at No. 3 doubles, had the closest singles match of the day
for the Tigers, winning the opening set 6-4. After getting edged
7-6 in the second set, Hoing and Quenton Peterson-Paul played a 13-11
third and deciding set (won by Peterson-Paul).
Trinity will face St. Edward's University on the
road next Friday, then will open up the home portion of its schedule
with a pair of matches against the University of Incarnate Word and
Texas Lutheran University. |
