The four-time National Junior
College Athletic Association champion Laredo Community College Palominos
beat the Trinity University Tigers 7-2 Friday in a dual match at Delavan
Tennis Stadium. Laredo took
two of three doubles matches and five of six singles from the Tigers,
ranked No. 10 in the NCAA Division III.
The Tigers Max Frey and Andrew Hoing
won No. 3 doubles, beating Luis Campos and Roberto Matos 9-7.
At No. 1 singles, Frey, ranked No.
14 in Division III in the fall, took Moacir Santos, the second-ranked
JUCO player, to three sets, before losing 7-5, 0-6, 7-10. Cledson
Carvalho, ranked No. 1 in the junior college poll, beat Trinity’s Bobby
Cocanougher 6-4, 6-2 at No. 2 singles.
Trinity’s John Runge battled and
captured No. 4 singles over Leury Arias 6-7, 7-6, 10-8.
The Tigers (5-6) have off until
March 20 when they host Tyler Junior College, ranked No. 2 in the JUCO
poll. |
