The Tigers, ranked No. 12 in the
NCAA Division III, shut out The Cru of the University of Mary
Hardin-Baylor 9-0 Saturday at Delavan Tennis Stadium.
Trinity, ranked No. 3 in the West
Region, improved its record to 6-7. The Tigers did not drop a set in the
dual match.
Sophomores Bobby Cocanougher and
Cory Kowal, ranked No. 3 regionally, won No. 1 doubles with an 8-2
victory over Daniel White and Joshua Pownall. Sophomore Don Murray and
first-year Ben Carroll, ranked No. 13 in the West Region, took out Ramon
Aguirre and Alex Graham 8-1 at No. 2 doubles. Sophomore Andrew Hoing and
first-year Max Frey won No. 3 doubles, by beating Lane Vaandrager and
Casey Wharton 8-4.
Frey, the No. 2 ranked player in the
region, won the top singles slot with a 6-0, 6-2 victory over Aguirre.
Cocanougher, ranked 14th, defeated Garrett Pekar 6-2, 6-4 at
No. 2 singles. No. 3 singles went to first-year John Runge, a 6-2, 6-2
winner over Pownall. Kowal captured No. 4 singles with a 6-2, 6-0 win
over White, and Hoing earned a 6-3, 6-0 nod over Graham at No. 5. Senior
Crisanto Ramirez was the No. 6 winner, taking a 6-2, 6-0 match over
Wharton.
Trinity travels to Sherman, Texas,
for a SCAC match Friday with Colorado College at Austin College. Next
Saturday, the Tigers continue their SCAC schedule in Sherman with two
matches, against Southwestern and the host Austin College. |
