The Tiger men's tennis team opened up its 2009 season with a win over
Division I Prairie View A&M University on Friday at the Abilene
Christian Indoors. Trinity (1-0) swept the
doubles matches to start off the season on the right foot, then
continued its strong opening with wins in five of the six singles
contests. Using Division I rules, the doubles matches counted for
just one point.
Bobby Cocanougher and Cory Kowal, two-time ITA
Regional doubles champions, won 8-5 at No. 1 doubles. The duo also
won in singles, at No. 3 and No. 4, respectively.
Andrew Hoing was also a double winner on the day,
teaming with Crisanto Ramirez for an 8-0 win at No. 3 doubles, then took
a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 6 singles.
Max Frey won 6-2, 6-1 at No. 1 singles, while Jose
Borges took a 6-2, 6-2 win at the fifth singles position. Ben
Carroll and Don Murray teamed up to win 8-5 at No. 2 doubles.
Trinity will take on hosting Abilene Christian
University tomorrow morning to finish off the opening weekend of the
season. |
