Trinity's men's tennis team suffered a 9-0 shutout to open play at the
ITA Indoor National Championships at Gustavus Adolphus College on
Friday. Trinity (2-4) fell in two close
doubles matches to start off on the wrong foot - including a 9-8 loss at
No. 3 doubles. The Tigers then lost in straight sets in all six
singles matchups.
John Runge had by far the closest call, losing
5-7, 6-7 at No. 5 singles, while Bobby Cocanougher also fell 6-7, 3-6 in
a close match at the second position.
Trinity will play in the consolation semifinal on
Saturday morning against UC-Santa Cruz. The Tigers entered the
tournament as the No. 8 seed overall. |
