Trinity Finishes Tournament With Win Over Kalamazoo
San Antonio - The Trinity men's basketball team concluded the Trinity/Southwestern Thanksgiving Tournament with a 76-47 victory over Kalamazoo College on Saturday night.
Trinity (3-2) led 39-20 at the half, and led by as many as 34 points in the game. Kalamazoo got as close as 15 points early in the second half, but they could get no closer as the Tiger defense held them to just 27.4% (17-62) shooting in the game. Meanwhile, Trinity's offense continued to play well, hitting 49.2% (31-63) of its shots and out-rebounding the visitors 52-32.
Peter Murray and Sean Devins accounted for nearly half of the team's point total, as each Tiger player finished with 17 points. Murray hit 8-11 from the field and also led the team with eight rebounds. Devins finished with six rebounds and six blocks, and hit 7-11 from the floor.
Jason Morris and Peter Murray both earned All-Tournament honors for the Tigers, and Morris was named the Tournament MVP. Morris finished tonight's game with 10 points and five rebounds, as well as recording two steals and two assists. Andy Bates finished with six points and four blocks, while Mitch Walker and Ross Burt also chipped in six points each.
Thomas Greer led the Hornets with eight points off the bench, followed by Phillip Weaver and Pat Clancy with seven points each.
Trinity will travel to Georgetown, Texas next Saturday to take on Southwestern University in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference openers for both teams. The men's game will be preceded by the Trinity-Southwestern women's game, which will begin at 6:00 p.m.
