Tigers Drop SCAC Opener in Georgetown
Georgetown, Texas - Trinity's men's basketball team lost 60-63 in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference opener against Southwestern University on Friday night.
Trinity (3-3, 0-1) led 38-29 at the half, but a 15-6 run to open the second period tied the game at 44-44. The Pirates stayed close, but pulled ahead until the 4:34 mark with a jump shot and a free throw from leading scorer Aaron Bowser (53-51). Southwestern took control at that point, building a six-point lead with 1:00 to play. The Tigers got to within one possession in the final seconds, but a missed three ended the game.
Sean Devins led the Tigers with 22 points, missing his career-high by just one point. Devins hit 8-15 from the field and 5-5 from the foul line, collecting seven rebounds and three assists as well. Peter Murray was the only other Trinity player in double figures, finishing with 14 points on 6-9 shooting, and hauling in six boards.
Ross Burt and Andy Bates each chipped in with eight points for Trinity, which shot 38.6% as a team from the field.
Jamonn Little led Southwestern with 17 points on 7-13 shooting, while Robert Cates added 11 points. Bowser finished with nine points and nine boards to go with five assists. Brandon Daniels also added nine points and three steals.
Trinity will next play at a tournament at Incarnate Word on December 16-17, and will not return home until the middle of January.
