Tigers Fall to Aggies in Tough Matchup
College Station, Texas - The Trinity men's basketball team dropped a 67-48 decision to Division I's Texas A&M University on Tuesday night at Reed Arena.
Trinity (1-2) trailed 27-37 at the half, and lost its second consecutive game of the season. The Tigers stayed closed throughout the first half, as the Aggies biggest lead was 11 points, but midway through the second half, Texas A&M pulled away with a 13-1 run.
In that second half, Trinity matched A&M point for point in the first five minutes, and cut the lead to six (47-41) with four unanswered points. The Aggies went on their 12-point run from there, holding the Tigers scoreless for nearly six minutes of the game.
Jason Morris led the Tigers with 14 points in the game, while Andy Bates added 13 on 4-7 shooting - including 3-6 three-point shots. Peter Murray led the way with five rebounds, and Chad Stroberg chipped in with six points.
Antoine Wright led all players with 21 points and nine rebounds for the Aggies, while Dominique Kirk and Joseph Jones each scored in double figures, scoring 10 and 11 points, respectively.
Trinity shot just 30.4% from the field, while A&M hit 42.9% of its shots. The Aggies also out-rebounded the Tigers 35-29 in the game.
The Tigers will host the Trinity/Southwestern Thanksgiving Classic this weekend, opening the team's home schedule against Whitworth and Kalamazoo. Trinity will then travel to Southwestern for the conference opener.
