San Antonio -
Trinity's softball team will head to the University of Redlands for the
NCAA Regional Tournament this weekend, as announced by the NCAA today.
Trinity, which holds
a 26-20 record this season, will be the No. 5 seed in the tournament,
and will face No. 4 seed Linfield College. Top seed Chapman
University, hosts and No. 2 seed Redlands, and No. 3 seed Louisiana
College round out the regional.
Trinity qualified
for the NCAA playoffs by winning the Southern Collegiate Athletic
Conference championship on April 24. The Tigers defeated Centre
College twice on the final day to earn the team's fifth overall title.
Linfield won its
second straight Northwest Conference Championship to qualify, while
Louisiana College and Redlands also earned automatic berths after
winning conference tournaments. Chapman is in as an independent
team.
Trinity and Linfield will play at 10:00 a.m. on
Friday, with the winner facing top seed Chapman at 2:00 p.m. The
losing team will play the first elimination game of the regional at 4:00
p.m.
The winner of this
weekend's regional will advance to the NCAA Championships, which will be
held in Raleigh, North Carolina on May 20-24. |
