Trinity University Director of Athletics Bob King has announced the
appointment of Nicole Dickson as the Tigers’ head softball coach.
Dickson, a
former Trinity standout, has been an assistant coach for the past five
years with the University of Houston. She was responsible for infield
defense and offensive strategies for the Cougars, who amassed a record
of 150-96 and earned an NCAA Division I postseason appearance.
“I’m
excited to be back at my alma mater,” Dickson said. “I will be working
with great people and a great staff. The program has a good history and
tradition and I look forward to taking it to the next level.”
A native of
Sugar Land, Texas (Elkins High School), Dickson was a four-year letter
winner on the Trinity softball team from 1997 to 2000. As captain and an
infielder, Dickson helped lead her Tiger team to two back-to-back
Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) titles in 1999 and 2000.
Trinity also made its first-ever NCAA Division III tournament appearance
in 2000.
The
talented Dickson was elected to the All-SCAC First Teams in 1999 and
2000, as well as to the All-Region Second Team in 2000.
Dickson
worked for the San Antonio Sports Foundation during her senior year at
Trinity, serving in a number of capacities. She assisted on a variety of
projects, including the NCAA Division I Men’s and Women’s Final Four
events.
She earned a Bachelor of Arts in sociology
from Trinity in 2000 and a Master of Education in sports administration
from Houston in 2005.
“The softball program has had great
success in recent years, and we feel like Nicole will continue the
winning tradition here at Trinity,” said King about his newly hired
coach. “I’m happy to have one of our alums on board to contribute to
the department.”
The Tigers have won six SCAC titles and
played in five NCAA tournaments since 1999, the first year the
conference recognized softball as a championship sport. |
