| Redlands,
California
- Trinity's softball team was eliminated from the NCAA West Regional
Tournament in a 2-0 loss to Linfield College on Friday morning at the
University of Redlands. Trinity (29-14)
ends its season with two losses in the postseason tournament, missing
the chance to set a new single season record for wins. The Tigers
are tied for the most wins this year with 29 total victories.
The Tigers defeated Linfield 4-3 in 15 innings
to start last year's regional tournament, but the Wildcats got some
measure of revenge with today's win.
Melissa Johnson pitched well, allowing just two
unearned runs on 10 hits, but was still charged with the loss as
Trinity's offense was held to just one hit.
That one hit came off the bat of first-year
Jennifer Mossburg - a one-out single in the seventh inning.
Mossburg finished 1-3 in the game. Trinity stranded all four of
its runners in the game.
Trinity's defense also cut down two other
potential runs, ruining a squeeze play attempt, and also cutting down a
runner trying to score on a fielder's choice.
The Tigers earned their fourth playoff
appearance in six years under Head Coach Roland Rodriguez by winning the
Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament at the end of April,
earning the league's automatic bid. |
