First-Inning Run is Enough for Trinity to Beat Coe

Panama City, Florida - Trinity's softball team scored a run in the first inning against Coe (IA) College on Saturday, which turned out to be the only run scored in the game as Trinity earned the 1-0 victory.

Trinity (7-4) started the game off with a single and a sacrifice bunt, followed by a groundout and a wild pitch to open the scoring.  No one knew at the time that the innocent first-inning score would be the game-winning run.

Kate Wright had two of Trinity's three hits in the game, scoring the run in the first inning.

Erin Mulvey (5-2) earned the complete-game shutout, becoming Trinity's all-time wins leader with her 35th career victory.  Mulvey allowed just three hits, walking one batter and striking out a season-high 13 hitters.

Trinity will play later today against Chapman University to open up bracket play.  The Tigers finished pool play with a perfect 3-0 record, recording two shutouts and a last-inning comeback victory.
