- Trinity's softball team earned a Southern Collegiate Athletic
Conference weekend split with Hendrix College, winning the second game
of today's doubleheader. Trinity (12-8, 2-2)
lost the opener 10-6, but bounced back to split today's doubleheader -
and the conference-opening weekend - with a 7-0 shutout in game two.
The Tigers jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first
game, scoring four times in the bottom of the first inning. The
Warriors finally got on the board with a run in the third, but Trinity
answered with another run to make it 5-1. Hendrix broke the game
wide open against Trinity's relief pitching, scoring nine runs in the
fifth and sixth to take a 10-5 advantage.
Erin Fodness was 2-3 with three RBI in the first
game, cracking her second homer of the season in the bottom of the
first. Jamie Williams was 3-4 with two doubles and two runs scored
in game one.
Kim Tallent led Hendrix with the complete-game
victory, as well as collecting two hits and two runs offensively.
In game two, Tiger starter Karen Fisher (1-0) went
the distance to earn a two-hit shutout victory, and give her team a
much-needed split for the weekend. Fisher also pitched four
innings of the first game, giving up one run on six hits.
Williams finished with three more hits in the
second game, including a triple for her third extra-base hit of the day.
Christina Carni finished 1-3 with two runs scored.
Katie Longacre was 3-4 with two runs and three RBI
in the game, including her third double of the season. Michelle
Gossein also had a triple for the Tigers in game two, giving her three
triples in the last six games.
Trinity will host Lindenwood (MO) University in a
doubleheader on Wednesday at 4:00 p.m. Next weekend, the Tigers
head to Austin College for a four-game SCAC series in Sherman, Texas. |
