Tigers Earn Weekend Sweep With Sunday Split

San Antonio - Trinity's softball team earned a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference weekend split with Hendrix College, winning the second game of today's doubleheader.

Trinity (12-8, 2-2) lost the opener 10-6, but bounced back to split today's doubleheader - and the conference-opening weekend - with a 7-0 shutout in game two.

The Tigers jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first game, scoring four times in the bottom of the first inning.  The Warriors finally got on the board with a run in the third, but Trinity answered with another run to make it 5-1.  Hendrix broke the game wide open against Trinity's relief pitching, scoring nine runs in the fifth and sixth to take a 10-5 advantage.

Erin Fodness was 2-3 with three RBI in the first game, cracking her second homer of the season in the bottom of the first.  Jamie Williams was 3-4 with two doubles and two runs scored in game one.

Kim Tallent led Hendrix with the complete-game victory, as well as collecting two hits and two runs offensively.

In game two, Tiger starter Karen Fisher (1-0) went the distance to earn a two-hit shutout victory, and give her team a much-needed split for the weekend.  Fisher also pitched four innings of the first game, giving up one run on six hits.

Williams finished with three more hits in the second game, including a triple for her third extra-base hit of the day.  Christina Carni finished 1-3 with two runs scored.

Katie Longacre was 3-4 with two runs and three RBI in the game, including her third double of the season.  Michelle Gossein also had a triple for the Tigers in game two, giving her three triples in the last six games.

Trinity will host Lindenwood (MO) University in a doubleheader on Wednesday at 4:00 p.m.  Next weekend, the Tigers head to Austin College for a four-game SCAC series in Sherman, Texas.
