- Trinity's softball team split a Wednesday evening doubleheader
with LaGrange (GA) College to break up its winning streak.
Trinity (19-9) had won seven consecutive games coming
into today, and pushed that streak to eight games with a 9-0 win to
start things off. In game two, LaGrange ended the run of wins with
a 4-1 victory over the Tigers.
The Tigers scored in all five innings of the first
game, starting off the doubleheader with a bang by scoring four runs in
the first.
In game two, LaGrange got on the board first with
a run in the opening inning, adding three more runs in the fourth and
fifth to take a 4-0 lead. Trinity managed a run in the sixth, but
could get no more.
Erin Mulvey (10-4) tossed a one-hit shutout in the
opener, earning her 40th career victory, and striking out six batters in
five innings. Jillian Degerness (7-2) took the loss in game two,
giving up four runs on eight hits, but she did record her 200th career
strikeout.
Trinity was held to just three hits in game two,
with Kate Wright and Kristin Yurasits collecting two of those hits.
Wright drove in the only run of the second game for the Tigers, plating
Yurasits with a sixth-inning double.
Jamie Williams had the third hit in game two, and
also finished 1-3 with one run and two RBI in game two.
Wright and Amy Blaha led the Tiger offense with
two hits each, and while Blaha drove in two runs, Wright scored a pair.
Katie Longacre also went 2-3 to tie for the team
lead in hits, scoring twice and driving in two more. One of those
RBI came on a solo homer in the fourth inning.
Trinity will return to action in 10 days when the
team will travel to Millsaps College for a four-game Southern Collegiate
Athletic Conference series in Jackson, Mississippi. |
