| Jackson, Mississippi
- Trinity's softball team earned the top seed in the SCAC West
Division by splitting a doubleheader at Millsaps College on Sunday
afternoon. Trinity (22-10, 9-3) won the
opening game 5-0, then missed the chance for a weekend series sweep as
Millsaps took the second game 7-3.
Neither team scored in the first three innings of
game one, but the Tigers finally got on the board with a run in the
fourth - followed by two more in the fifth. Trinity added a pair
of insurance runs in the seventh for the final score.
Erin Mulvey (12-4) tossed a three-hit shutout -
her seventh shutout of the season - in the opener, striking out nine
batters in the game. She later recorded her 10th strikeout of the
day as she came on to finish the second game. Yesterday, she
became the SCAC's all-time career strikeout leader, eclipsing the 400
strikeout barrier.
Jamie Williams hit her sixth triple of the season
in the first game, breaking the school single season record. She
was 2-4 with two RBI and one run scored.
Kate Wright was 3-4 with two runs in the first
game, while Amy Blaha was 2-3 with one RBI. Katie Longacre also
had two RBI, finishing 1-3 at the plate.
Jillian Degerness (8-3) took the loss in game two,
though she gave up just three earned runs in 5.2 innings of work.
Wright added two more hits in the second game, and
was the only Tiger player with more than one hit in the series finale.
Trinity will be the top seed at the SCAC
Tournament with the split, winning the SCAC West Division title for the
sixth time in eight seasons. The Tigers will also host the
tournament, which begins Friday, April 27. |
