Trinity Opens SCAC Tournament With Win Over Millsaps

San Antonio - Trinity's softball team opened play at the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championship Tournament with a 1-0 win over Millsaps College on Friday afternoon.

Trinity (23-10) came into the game as the SCAC West Division Champion, receiving a first-round bye in the tournament.  Millsaps, the third seed in the West, advanced to face Trinity after defeated East # 2 seed Rhodes College 4-3 to open the tournament.

The two teams played five-and-a-half innings without scoring a run, but Lee Smith hit a single through the left side of the infield to get Trinity on the board in the bottom of the sixth.

That run would be all the Tigers would need as senior pitcher Erin Mulvey threw a four-hit shutout to earn the victory.  Mulvey struck out nine batters in the game to improve to 13-4 on the season.

Smith finished 1-2 with the lone RBI of the game, while senior Amy Blaha was 3-3 with three singles for the Tigers.

Trinity will face DePauw tomorrow afternoon in the Semifinals of the SCAC Championship, with the winner of that game advancing to the SCAC Championship game on Sunday.
