Trinity Defeats DePauw in Showdown of Top Seeds

San Antonio - The Trinity softball team handed DePauw a 1-0 shutout loss in the Semifinals of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championship Tournament on Saturday afternoon at Trinity University.

Trinity (24-10) came in as the top seed in the West Division, while DePauw won the SCAC East Division title.  DePauw defeated Centre College 6-2 to advance to today's game.

Senior Amy Blaha, who had three hits yesterday, was 2-2 in today's game, knocking in the game-winning run in the sixth inning.

After opening the bottom of the sixth inning with two outs, Trinity's Michelle Gossein started a rally for the home team.  Erin Fodness followed with another hit, putting runners on the corners, and setting up Blaha's late-inning heroics.

Erin Mulvey (15-4) tossed a three-hit shutout - her second of the tournament - with nine strikeouts and just one walk for Trinity.  Mulvey has allowed seven hits and no runs in her first two games, recording 18 strikeouts.

Fodness and Blaha both had two hits to lead Trinity's offense, while Gossein scored the game's only run.

Trinity will face either Centre, Hendrix, or DePauw in tomorrow's SCAC Championship game.  Centre and Hendrix will play next, with the winner advancing to take on DePauw in today's final contest.
