| San Antonio
- The Tiger softball team was swept in a Thursday night doubleheader
at Division II St. Mary's University, snapping the team's four-game
winning streak. Trinity (4-4) lost 8-0 and
11-3 in two games that were shortened due to the run rule. The
Tigers are now 0-4 against non-Division III opponents this season.
Sophomore Kate Wright hit her first career home
run in the fifth inning of game two, driving in all three of Trinity's
runs. Wright was 2-3 in that second game.
Erin Mulvey (2-2) took the loss in the opening
game, while Jillian Degerness (2-1) was charged with her first loss of
the season in game two. Both pitchers recorded a pair of
strikeouts.
Caitlin Richards pinch-hit for Trinity to lead off
the fifth inning of game two, and cracked a double - her first career
hit, which came in her first plate appearance of the season.
Jamie Williams had the only hit of game one for
the Tigers, extending her hitting streak to seven games to start the
year; however, that streak came to an end in game two as she went 0-2
with a walk.
Trinity will not play again until next Friday
(March 9) when it begins play at the NFCA Leadoff Classic, in Panama
City, Florida. The Tigers will take on St. Mary's (MN) to open the
tournament. |
