- Trinity's softball team answered its first loss of the NFCA
Leadoff Classic with a 12-0 shutout win over Wheaton (MA) College to
advance to the Consolation Final of the Gold Bracket.
Trinity (8-5) scored six runs in each of the first
two innings to advance in the tournament, which will conclude this
afternoon. The Tigers defeated Wheaton 6-5 earlier in the
tournament, which began on Friday.
Tiger pitchers Erin Mulvey and Jillian Degerness
combined for the one-hit shutout victory. Mulvey struck out three
in two innings of work, while Degerness allowed one hit over the final
three innings to earn the win. The two pitchers faced the minimum
amount of hitters, though, as the only Wheaton runner to reach base was
picked off in the fourth inning.
Lee Smith recorded five RBI in the first two
innings, cracking a two-run double in the first and a three-run triple
in the second. Smith finished 2-2 with two runs and the five RBI.
Kristin Yurasits was 2-2 with three RBI in the
game, while Michelle Gossein was 2-3 with two runs and two RBI.
Jamie Williams and Erin Fodness both scored two runs as well for the
Tigers.
Trinity will face Mount Union College in the Gold
Bracket Consolation Final this afternoon. |
